A generative system has a pre-determined set of rules that give rise to a range of unpredictable outcomes. I devised a generative system to create textile patterns. Each pattern box has 6 geometric shapes. Each box colour and each geometric shape, its colour and frequency in the pattern is determined by the roll of a dice. For example, if you throw a 2 you pick a square, next throw a 5 gives you 5 squares, next throw a 1 and the colour will be blue. Repeat this 6 times then once more to determine the background box colour. You then arrange the outcome as a pattern in the box parameter and repeat this box to generate the final pattern.
